GRUPO IBEROSTAR has been working in the tourism and holiday industry for over 87 years. Throughout this time, the Group has developed from a family-run travel agent and evolved into a multinational business with a range of different departments. Today, GRUPO IBEROSTAR is a 100% family-owned Spanish business and a point of reference around the world in the Tourism Industry.
The origin of the company goes back to the end of the 19th century, with the founding of the Fluxà family footwear business, the first of its kind on the island of Majorca, in Spain.
GRUPO IBEROSTAR enters into the tourism industry as Viajes Iberia, founded in 1930, and started to create alliances with some of the most prestigious tour operators in Europe, the USA and Canada.
Miguel Fluxà founds the first IBEROSTAR hotels in Majorca and the Canary Islands.
IBEROSTAR Hotels & Resorts commences its international expansion process with its first hotel in the Caribbean.
GRUPO IBEROSTAR sets up the IBEROSTAR FOUNDATION, an institution for social action, cultural development and cooperation in development.
GRUPO IBEROSTAR sells its issuing companies in order to focus on hotels, a key business area for the Group. IBEROSERVICE, the incoming tourism department, is maintained.
GRUPO IBEROSTAR buys a 5% stake in Grupo ACS and launches a new line of luxury hotels: The Grand Collection.
GRUPO IBEROSTAR creates a new real estate department, IBEROSTATE Golf, Villas & Condos, dedicated to developing luxury holiday properties in exclusive areas within 5-star IBEROSTAR hotel resorts.
GRUPO IBEROSTAR consolidates its hotel division in 15 countries around the world and extends the Grand Collection hotel line. The expansion process continues as urban hotels are targeted in tourist destinations such as Budapest, Havana and Tenerife (Canary Islands).
