Iberostar Wave of Change

Iberostar’s commitment to the oceans to lead the way in responsible tourism

Wave of Change aims to contribute primarily to achieving SDG Goal 14: conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. But with the pandemic, we realised it was much more. We must use the potential of the tourism industry to build a profitable and responsible tourism model that respects the oceans and mitigates climate change.

2030 Agenda

Our 5 commitments for this decade

In early 2020 we announced our five long-term commitments with a view to 2030. These objectives help us to continue to lead the way in responsible tourism and improve the quality tourism experience we offer our guests.

Iberostar Group

1

All Iberostar hotels are single-use plastic-free in all areas from 2020, and will be waste-free (destined for landfill) by 2025 and carbon neutral by 2030.

2

Fish and seafood consumption at Iberostar will be 100% responsibly sourced by 2025.

3

Iberostar will invest in the health of the ecosystems surrounding all its hotels, committing to having improved them by 2030 and increasing the quality of tourism in the destinations.

4

90% of guests staying at Iberostar will be aware of the Wave of Change movement by 2023 and this will be a major factor in 60% of guests choosing Iberostar by 2025.

5

Twice as many of the hotels in Iberostar’s portfolio will have adopted Iberostar’s own responsible tourism certification or that of verified partners by 2030.
