On his own, Antoni Fluxà builds a small artisanal shoe workshop in Inca, Majorca (Spain).
The Iberostar Group is a 100% family-owned Spanish company and a global standard in the tourism industry. It was founded in 1956 when a small travel agency was acquired by a Majorcan company with origins stretching back to 1877.

Lorenzo Fluxà (son of Antoni) takes over the family business.
1930
Viajes Baleares, an offshoot of Viajes Iberia, is founded without the participation of the Fluxà family.
1956
The Iberostar Group enters the tourism industry with the purchase of Viajes Iberia. It starts to form alliances with the most respected tour operators in Europe, the US and Canada.
1961
First hotel of the Fluxà family: Hotel Flamingo in Palma de Mallorca.
1962
Miguel Fluxà joins the management team of the family tourism business, a small network of 8 travel agencies.
1979
Viajes Iberia exclusively represents Neckermann (Thomas Cook) and Instasun.
First international expansion: Iberotravel is created, the first incoming tourism agency in England.
1983
The Iberostar brand is born.
1986
First Group logo featuring a star appears.
1987
First hotel in the Canary Islands,
IBEROSTAR Lanzarote Park, and the first company is named Iberostar S.A.
1990
7 hotels are built in Majorca during 1990.
1991
Miguel Fluxà creates the first
Spanish tour operator that operates abroad: Sunworld
1993
Iberostar Hotels & Resorts begins its international expansion project with the first hotel in the Caribbean: Iberostar Bávaro, Punta Cana (the Dominican Republic).
1997
First Group hotels
in Mexico: Iberostar Tucán and Quetzal.
1998
Creation of the airline company Iberworld.
1999
Miguel Fluxà receives the Principe Felipe Prize for Excellence in Business.
2002
First hotel in Morocco, the Iberostar Founty Beach, Agadir.
Tourism Development in Majorca awards Miguel Fluxà its Golden Medal.
2004
The Iberostar Group constitutes the FUNDACIÓN IBEROSTAR, an organisation that provides social assistance, cultural development and cooperation for overall development.
2005
His Majesty King Juan Carlos I personally gives Miguel Fluxà the Golden Medal for Tourism, which was awarded posthumously to Fluxà’s father.
Sabina and Gloria Fluxà start working at IBEROSTAR.
2006
he Iberostar Group sells its issuing companies to the venture capital funds The Carlyle Group and Vista Capital (Banco Santander) to focus on the hotel business.
First hotel in Brazil: the Iberostar Bahía in Praia do Forte.
2007
The Iberostar Group launches a new line of luxury hotels: The Grand Collection. First hotel in Jamaica: the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach in Montego Bay.
2008
The Iberostar Group creates the new real estate company called IBEROSTATE Golf, Villas & Condos, which is dedicated to the development of luxury holiday residences in exclusive areas within 5-star Iberostar hotel complexes.
2010
First Colonial hotel acquired: Iberostar Colonial Trinidad, Trinidad, Cuba.
Grand opening of the Iberostar Group’s new Corporate Headquarters in Palma de Mallorca.
Miguel Fluxà receives the Golden Medal from the Majorca Chamber of Commerce.
2011
The Iberostar Group consolidates the hotel division in 15 countries around the world and expands The Grand Collection hotel range. Urban hotels in tourist destinations like Budapest, Havana and Tenerife (Canary Islands) are expanded.
2012
Entry into almundo.com, one of the key players in Latin America that is headquartered in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
2014
IBEROSTAR THE CLUB is founded, headquartered in Miami, Florida.
2015
Entry into W2M, an incoming company mainly focused on the Mediterranean.
2016
Grand opening of the Group’s first hotel in the United States: the Iberostar 70 Park Avenue in New York.
The Iberostar Group is granted permission to create the Caribbean Hotel Logistics partnership, the first importer of foreign capital with operations in Mariel. Havana (Cuba).
2017
Sabina Fluxà is named CEO of the Iberostar Group.
Miguel Fluxà receives the Oro y Brillantes
insignia from CIMET in 2017 in recognition for his pioneering work in promoting Spanish tourism to Ibero-America.
2018
Iberostar presents the company’s new strategic plan that includes new portfolio segmentation and a new visual and verbal identity. Let it shine.
